These are quite beautiful & can be made from plastic milk jugs. You cut out one basic shape & use it to interlock with more of the same shape. It's a contemporary/modern look.
I was thinking you could make a trial version by cutting the shapes from thin cardboard, like from cereal boxes. After you try it out you can see how big you want the shape to be and how many you will need. You can also try out various configurations to see what you like best. Good luck with it! Could be a good family project!
